Cut and Run
I first met my fictional character Jack Hubbard in Seattle, or rather the Special Agent on whom Jack is based. ‘Jack’ was very active in bringing down many major drug smuggling conspiracies from South East Asia into the West Coast of America. The canvas of Cut and Run stretches from Da Nang to Savile Row, Seattle to New York, San Francisco and Hong Kong. It involves deceptions within deception; gun battles at sea; identities that should never be assumed; loyalty that switches and counts for nothing; and open-heart surgery on the deck of the Seattle pierhead—using scissors and an index finger. Jack gave me a real insight into how these things work and the minds and motivations of the main players as they launder their dirty money in highly intriguing ways.
