I am a journalist and author. I write major investigative features and profiles for The Observer Magazine, Telegraph Magazine, Times Magazine and Vanity Fair on a variety of subjects. These include international crime, boardroom takeover battles, refugee camps, politics, a Rolling Stone and two Ramones. In pursuing my work I have been very lucky to travel widely―from Hollywood to Afghanistan; Kathmandu to the city of Cork.
I have written four books of non-fiction: Cold Steel: Lakshmi Mittal and the Multi-Billion-Dollar Battle for a Global Empire (Little Brown 2008/Abacus 2009) and 617: Going to War with Today’s Dambusters (Orion 2014), The Man Behind the Wheel (Rupa 2017), Philip Jackson A Life in Sculpture (Studio Gallery Publications).
I am also the author of a crime novel Cut and Run which is based on a massive real-life marijuana smuggling and money laundering syndicate that had its own navy.
I love to go places and meet out of the ordinary people; and ordinary people doing extraordinary things. I like digging for stories and I dislike adverbs. I regret not meeting Bob Dylan—there’s still time for us both. I hope you enjoy seeing what I have been up to.
